Vladislav Anisovich
Vladislav Leopoldovich Anisovich (1908–1969) was a Russian and Soviet painter and art educator. He lived and worked in Leningrad and is considered part of the Leningrad School of Painting. He was best known for his portrait paintings.
Anisovich was born on June 7, 1908, in Lugansk, then part of the Russian Empire (now Ukraine). He studied at the Kharkov Art Institute, then moved to Moscow to study at VKhUTEIN. After VKhUTEIN closed, he continued his training at the Repin Institute of Arts in Leningrad, where he studied with Rudolf Frentz and Alexander Savinov. He graduated in 1931 as an artist of monumental painting.
After graduation, Anisovich continued his studies and earned a degree in art history for a historic painting about The Workers’ Uprising in Germany. He began participating in exhibitions in 1935, painting portraits, genre scenes, historical subjects and landscapes. In 1932 he helped found the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists, and from 1933 to 1969 he taught at the Repin Institute, influencing many students.
Anisovich died on August 30, 1969, in Alupka, USSR, at the age of 61. His paintings are held in The State Russian Museum and in galleries, museums and private collections across Russia, Ukraine, Japan, Germany, France and other countries.
