History
The Daly brothers opened the first butter and cheese factory on the Darling Downs in 1889 at Quinalow. The name Quinalow comes from Catholic Bishop James Quinn; the ending “-alow” derives from the Irish word lough, meaning a brook or stream.

Quinalow Provisional School opened in 1901 and became Quinalow State School in 1909. It later offered secondary schooling from 1965 and added a preschool in 1985. In 1979 the original school building was moved to Daly Street and used as a preschool until a new preschool was built; the old building opened as Quinalow Library in 1984 and was refurbished in 2014. The town was affected by the 2010–2011 Queensland floods, which isolated the town at times.

In 2011 the population was 411. In 2016 it was 173, and in 2021 it was 205.

Quinalow State School provides primary and secondary education (Prep to Year 10) at 7 Progress Street. In 2018 the school had about 78 students with 14 teachers. For full secondary schooling (Year 11–12), the nearest government schools are Dalby State High School in Dalby and Oakey State High School in Oakey.
