John Curry (ice hockey)
John Curry (born February 27, 1984) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender from Shorewood, Minnesota. He played college hockey at Boston University, where he helped the Terriers win Beanpots and Hockey East titles and earned national recognition, including being a Hobey Baker Award finalist and Hockey East Player of the Year in 2006–07. He was inducted into the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
Curry signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins as an undrafted free agent in 2007 and spent most of his early pro years in the American Hockey League with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he was named AHL Rookie of the Month and earned a spot on the All-Rookie team. He appeared in a handful of NHL games with the Penguins and was part of the 2009 Stanley Cup-winning team, though he did not play enough to have his name engraved on the Cup. After stints with various teams in North America, he moved to Germany to play for the Hamburg Freezers in the DEL, and later returned to North America, signing with the Minnesota Wild in 2014 and playing for both the NHL club and their affiliates. A memorable moment came in April 2014 when he made 45 saves on 47 shots in a game against the St. Louis Blues before retiring after the 2014–15 season.
Curry is the oldest child of Steve and Kathy Curry. His sister Megan played college hockey at Amherst College and helped the team win two NCAA championships.
