Kreishauptmannschaft

Kreishauptmannschaft is a historical German word for an old type of administrative district, mainly used in the Kingdom of Saxony. It translates roughly to "District Captaincy" and is similar in idea to the modern term Regierungsbezirk (an administrative region).

Kreishauptmannschaften in the Kingdom of Saxony

- Originally there were four: Bautzen, Dresden, Leipzig, and Zwickau.
- In 1900, a fifth was added: Chemnitz.

Today, Kreishauptmannschaft is a historical term and no longer used as an official division.
