Aspergillus californicus
Aspergillus californicus is a species of fungus in the genus Aspergillus. It comes from the Cavernicolus section of the genus and was first described in 2011. The species was isolated from Adenostoma fasciculatum, a shrub found in California, United States.
Taxonomy (simplified): Kingdom Fungi; Division Ascomycota; Class Eurotiomycetes; Order Eurotiales; Family Aspergillaceae; Genus Aspergillus; Species A. californicus. The binomial name is Aspergillus californicus, described by Frisvad, Varga and Samson in 2011. Type strains include IBT 16748, CBS 123895 and CBS H-20635.
In the laboratory, A. californicus has been grown on two common fungal media—Czapek yeast extract agar (CYA) and Malt Extract Agar Oxoid (MEAOX)—to study its colony growth and morphology. This is a short, initial description of the species, and more information may be added as research continues.
