Kingsville Kings
The Kingsville Kings were a junior ice hockey team from Kingsville, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL), in the South Division. The club existed from 2015 to 2021 and played home games at the Kingsville Arena Complex.
History
- The team was announced in summer 2015. Tom Schinkelshoek was named team president.
- 2015–16 season: The Kings started with a long undefeated streak. Their first game was September 8, 2015, in Brantford, a dominating 11–0 win. Their first home game was September 11, 2015, a 4–3 victory over the Toronto Blue Ice Jets. Alexander Naskov scored the first Kingsville goal; Jan Pechek earned the first win as goalie.
- The Kings finished the season as South Division and GMHL runners-up with 39 wins and 2 losses (plus a weather forfeit). They won the South Division playoff title but lost the Russell Cup final to the Tottenham Steam in seven games. Jan Pechek led the league with 24 wins and a .951 save percentage; Wes Werner set a league record with a 1.20 goals-against average. The team also set a league record for fewest goals allowed (71).
- A notable incident occurred on November 20, 2015, when a road game against the London Lakers featured a brawl.
- In the following seasons (2016–17 to 2019–20), the Kings remained competitive in the GMHL, with varying finishes in the South Division and playoffs.
- The team did not play in 2021 and was not listed as a GMHL member, effectively folding that year.
