List of operas performed at The Santa Fe Opera (short version)
The Santa Fe Opera, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has presented hundreds of full operas with orchestra since its founding in 1957. The company has used three main venues over the years: the original theatre (1957–1967), performances in the Sweeney Opera House after a 1967 fire, the rebuilt theatre (1968–1997), and the Crosby Theatre since 1998.
Leadership has been steady and notable. The General Director was John Crosby from 1957 to 2000, followed by Richard Gaddes (2000–2008), Charles MacKay (2008–2018), and Robert Meya (2018–present).
The repertoire spans many composers and languages and includes both classic and contemporary works. Representative examples include:
- Puccini: Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Tosca
- Verdi: La Traviata
- Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, Cosi fan tutte
- Wagner: The Flying Dutchman, Tristan und Isolde
- Strauss: Salome, Der Rosenkavalier, Ariadne auf Naxos
- Bizet: The Pearl Fishers, Carmen
- Handel: Xerxes, Rodelinda, Semele
- Debussy: Pelléas et Mélisande
The Santa Fe Opera also has premiered new works and hosted many commissioned productions. For a complete, year-by-year list of operas, the company maintains a detailed online archive.
