It became the band’s biggest hit, reaching number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1977. It also reached number 25 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and number 51 on the Country chart. In Canada, it peaked at number 5 on the RPM Top Singles chart.

Critics praised the song, with Cash Box highlighting the pure-toned vocals and flute and guitar work, and Record World noting a strong blend of rock and country influences.

Personnel on the track include Doug Gray (lead vocals); Toy Caldwell (lead and acoustic guitars); Tommy Caldwell (bass guitar, backing vocals); George McCorkle (rhythm guitar); Paul Riddle (drums); and Jerry Eubanks (flute, backing vocals). Guest musician Paul Hornsby played piano and Hammond organ.
