Altenburger Land I
Altenburger Land I is an electoral district in Thuringia, Germany. It elects one member to the Landtag (the state parliament) using first-past-the-post voting. It is numbered as constituency 43 and covers the western part of Altenburger Land.
History
The constituency was created for the 1994 Thuringian state election. It was originally named Altenburg I and was later renamed Altenburger Land I after the 1994 election.
Geography
As of the 2019 state election, Altenburger Land I includes the western part of Altenburger Land, specifically the municipalities of Dobitschen, Göhren, Göllnitz, Gößnitz, Heukewalde, Heyersdorf, Jonaswalde, Kriebitzsch, Löbichau, Lödla, Lucka, Mehna, Meuselwitz, Monstab, Ponitz, Posterstein, Rositz, Schmölln, Starkenberg, Thonhausen, and Vollmershain.
Members
From 1994 to 2019, the constituency was held by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Fritz Schröter represented the area from 1994 to 2014, followed by Simone Schulze from 2014 to 2019. In 2019, the AfD won the seat, represented by Thomas-Otto Rudy. In 2024, Thomas Hoffmann of the AfD held the constituency.
