Agnieszka Pomaska is a Polish politician who has been a member of the Sejm (Poland’s parliament) since 2009, serving in the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th terms. She is a member of the Civic Platform party, and later the Civic Coalition.

Early life
Agnieszka Dominika Pomaska was born on January 8, 1980, in Gdynia, Poland. She grew up in the Tri-City area (Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia) and developed a love of water sports. As a child she sailed with YKP Gdynia and later with the Sopot Sailing Club. She achieved notable sailing success, including a world runner-up finish in juniors in the Mistral class, and Polish championships in sailing and windsurfing throughout the 1990s and 2000.

Politics
Pomaska became active in the political scene with the Young Democrats Association in 2001. From 2002 to 2006 she was elected to the City Council of Gdańsk on the Civic Platform ticket, winning 780 votes in 2005 and 3,410 votes in 2006. She studied political science at the University of Gdańsk, and she served as deputy chair of the City Council and chaired the Tourism and City Promotion Committee. She also led the Centrum Rozwoju Edukacji Obywatelyskiej (Education for Citizens Development) association.

Elections
In the 2007 parliamentary elections, Pomaska ran for a seat in the Sejm from the Gdańsk district, receiving 9,495 votes, but did not win a seat because her party won fewer seats in that district. She entered the Sejm on June 24, 2009, after Jarosław Wałęsa left his seat, at the age of 29. In 2010 she became the chair of the Civic Platform branch in Gdańsk, a position she held until 2021.

Pomaska was re-elected to the Sejm in 2011 with 16,117 votes, moving up to fourth place on the list led by Sławomir Nowak. During the 7th term she served as chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee. In 2015 she became the vice-president of the Civic Platform in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. That year she was part of the Civic Platform list in the parliamentary elections, finishing with 22,196 votes and ranking second on the list in Gdańsk. She again served on the European Union Affairs Committee in the 8th term and joined the Civic Platform’s national board in late 2017.

In the 2019 elections Pomaska was re-elected as part of the Civic Coalition, winning 39,103 votes. In 2021 she ran for the chairmanship of the Civic Platform in the Pomeranian Voivodeship but lost to the voivodeship marshal, Mieczysław Struk.

Agnieszka Pomaska has built a career as a long-serving Sejm member and a prominent Civic Platform leader in the Pomeranian region.
