Nimir Mohammed Abdelrahman (Arabic: نمر محمد عبد الرحمن) is a Sudanese politician and former governor of North Darfur. He co-founded and led the Sudan Liberation Movement – Transitional Council (SLM-TC).

Early life and education
Nimir was born in 1976 in Daba Nayra near Tawila, North Darfur, Sudan. He attended local schools and earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Omdurman Islamic University in 2003.

Political career and conflict involvement
After graduating, he joined the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM). He held several leadership roles, including administrative positions under SLM commanders and, from 2006 to 2011, he served as spokesman for SLM-AW. In 2012, he became deputy commander of the Sudan Revolutionary Front. He was captured by government forces in October 2017 and imprisoned at Al-Huda prison in Omdurman until July 2019, after which he represented freed SLM detainees and called for equal rights for all Sudanese.

During negotiations for the Juba Peace Agreement, he acted as the chief negotiator for the Sudan Liberation Movement – Transitional Council (SLM-TC). The SLM-TC aligned with the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) and continued to stay allied with them into the 2023 civil war.

Governor of North Darfur
On June 14, 2021, Nimir was appointed governor of North Darfur by the Transitional Sovereignty Council, alongside governors in other states. He replaced Mohamed Hassan Arabi and led as head of the SLM-TC while in office. In 2023, during the Sudanese civil war and RSF attacks on El Fasher, he organized burial committees and coordinated ceasefires with local mediators through a group called Committee and Mediators and Elders, advocating for peace between the warring sides.

Controversies and dismissal
In December 2023, he met with RSF leaders in El Fasher and suggested RSF leader Hemedti deserved consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize. On January 1, 2024, he was dismissed from the governorship by Burhan, who gave no public reason. Nimir claimed his dismissal was because he refused to wear a military uniform and to support the war, and he noted internal tensions within the SLM-TC over neutrality in the conflict.

Later roles
In February 2025, Nimir became president of the SLM-TC and joined the Government of Peace and Unity, a parallel administration backed by the RSF. The SLM-TC began cooperating militarily with the RSF, reportedly establishing a base in Korma northwest of El Fasher.
