Nijat Sultan
Nijat Sultan (Uyghur: نىجات سۇلتان; Chinese: 里加提·苏里堂; born October 1956) is a Chinese politician of Uyghur ethnicity who serves as the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. He was born in Artux, Xinjiang.
During the Cultural Revolution he was sent to Ürümqi as a youth and later worked as a warehouse keeper at the Xinjiang Agricultural Machinery Bureau Supply Station. In 1985 he moved to the Land Bureau of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1987. He served as deputy head of the Xinjiang Audit Office from 2005 to 2008, then as head of the Department of Communications of Xinjiang. In January 2015 he was named vice chairman of the Standing Committee of Xinjiang’s People’s Congress, and he also led the Xinjiang Federation of Trade Unions from 2015 to 2016. Sultan studied at Renmin University of China and the Central Party School of the Chinese Communist Party.
