Edwin R. Murray
Edwin Rene Murray, known as Ed Murray, was born on August 6, 1960. He is an American lawyer and Democratic politician from New Orleans, Louisiana. He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 2005, representing District 96 in Orleans Parish. In 2005, he was elected to the Louisiana State Senate for District 4 (Orleans Parish) and served until January 11, 2016, when he was term-limited out. He was succeeded by Wesley T. Bishop.
Murray grew up in New Orleans and attended John F. Kennedy High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1982 and a Juris Doctor in 1985 from Loyola University New Orleans. He works as a lawyer with Murray, Darnell & Associates and is involved with the Loyola University Institute of Politics. He is a Baptist and a member of professional groups including the National Bar Association and the American Association for Justice. In late 2009, he announced a candidacy for Mayor of New Orleans in 2010 but withdrew before the election.
