Overview
The Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force (Capo di Stato Maggiore dell'Aeronautica Militare) is the top commander of Italy’s Air Force. The position began in 1926 for the Royal Italian Air Force and continues in the Italian Air Force after 1946. The chief leads the service, coordinates its operations, and advises the government on air-power matters. The officer typically holds the rank Generale di squadra and reports to the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the Defence Staff.

Current chief
As of 2021, the Chief of Staff is Generale di squadra Luca Goretti, who has held the post since October 28, 2021.

The office has had a long line of chiefs since its creation, from Pier Ruggero Piccio (the first) through Armando Armani, Giuseppe Valle, Rino Corso Fougier, Renato Sandalli, and others, up to Luca Goretti (the current chief).
