Athletics at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games – Women's 400 metres

The women’s 400 metres at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games was held on July 22 and 23 at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland. This was the first time the event was run at 400 metres at the Games, replacing the older 440 yards distance.

Winner and results:
- Gold: Marilyn Neufville (Jamaica) – 51.02 seconds (world record)
- Silver: Sandra Brown (Australia) – 53.66 seconds
- Bronze: Judith Ayaa (Uganda) – 53.77 seconds

The winning margin was 2.64 seconds, and as of 2024 this remains the only time the women's 400 metres at these Games was won by more than two seconds.
