Auf Wiedersehen (Equinox album)

Overview
Auf Wiedersehen is the debut studio album by the Norwegian thrash metal band Equinox from Fredrikstad. It was released in 1989.

Recording and release
The album was recorded in about 45 hours at Athletic Sound in Halden, with a budget of roughly 35,000 Norwegian kroner. It was released independently by Laughing Deer, with a release show at Speilet in Fredrikstad. About 1,000 copies were pressed, and the rest were later distributed by BMG Ariola.

Meaning and style
The title, Auf Wiedersehen, is German for "goodbye" or "see you again." The concept was meant as a message beyond death from someone who had been executed by a dictatorship. Musically, the album is a heavy, aggressive thrash metal work with some melodic touches. Lyrics were intense, and while some listeners found them hard to understand, a lyric sheet was provided.

Reception
The album received positive coverage for its heaviness and intensity, and was seen as one of the heavier Norwegian metal releases of the time. Some reviews were mixed, but many praised its ferocity and energy.
