2005 AF2 season
The 2005 AF2 season was the sixth season of the AF2, the league’s minor-league version of arena football. Twenty teams competed. The Amarillo Dusters joined the league, Cape Fear Wildcats were renamed to South Georgia Wildcats, and several teams folded (Columbus Wardogs, Hawaiian Islanders, Laredo Law, Peoria Pirates, Tennessee Valley Vipers, Wichita Stealth). The season ran in 2005, and it was followed by the 2006 season.

Playoffs and ArenaCup VI
- ArenaCup VI, the AF2 championship game, was played on August 27, 2005, at CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana. Attendance was 6,236.
- The Memphis Xplorers defeated the Louisville Fire 63-41 to win ArenaCup VI and become league champions.
- Individual honors for ArenaCup VI: Offensive Player of the Game was Kevin Prentiss; Defensive Player of the Game and Ironman of the Game was Terrance Quattlebaum. Memphis head coach was Danton Barto; Louisville’s coach was Tommy Johnson.
In short, the Memphis Xplorers emerged as the 2005 AF2 champions after a season that saw new teams, relocations, and several old franchises no longer in the league.
