Overview
- The Europe Zone was one part of the 1986 Davis Cup. For the first time, Africa had its own qualifying zone to win a spot in Europe’s main draws. Nine African nations competed for two Europe Zone places, joining a larger pool of teams from Europe and surrounding regions. The winners of Europe Zone promotions earned a place in the 1987 Davis Cup World Group.
Promotions
- Zone A winner: France defeated Austria in the Zone A final and was promoted to the 1987 World Group.
- Zone B winner: Israel defeated Switzerland in the Zone B final and was promoted to the 1987 World Group.
- In total, France and Israel earned promotion to the 1987 World Group.

Format notes
- The Europe Zone was divided into two sub-zones, Zone A and Zone B, each running knockout rounds that led to a final within that zone. The winners of Zone A and Zone B earned promotion to the World Group for the following year.
