Jorge Estévez Martínez
Jorge Estévez Martínez (November 26, 1963 – June 27, 2025) was a Puerto Rican politician who served as the mayor of Añasco from 2009 to 2021. He was a member of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and held a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico.
Estévez Martínez won re-election in 2016 with 53% of the vote against Pablo Crespo (PNP), who received 44%. In 2020, he was defeated by Kabir Solares (PNP), who won 54% of the vote to Estévez Martínez’s 39%.
During his three terms, his notable projects included remodeling the town square and the market square, and the creation of the town’s convention center and a community center in Dagüey.
In 2019, Osvaldo Tubens criticized the maintenance of the parks. In 2021 an investigation found rusting municipal vehicles and an abandoned water park, with horses grazing nearby, highlighting concerns about town management.
Jorge Estévez Martínez died on June 27, 2025, at the age of 61.
