The Varsity is the official student newspaper of the University of Toronto. It has been published since 1880. Today it appears weekly in a compact format and covers tri-campus news from St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. The Varsity also publishes two seasonal magazines and maintains online content year-round. It is produced by Varsity Publications Inc., a not‑for‑profit organization based on the St. George campus, and is funded by student levies and advertising revenue. The paper is based in Toronto, Ontario, and has a circulation of about 18,000. Its website is www.thevarsity.ca.

History in brief
- 1880: In its first issue, The Varsity supported admitting women to the university.
- 1895: The editor, James Tucker, was suspended, sparking a dispute that led to protests and a boycott by University College students; William Lyon Mackenzie King, who would later become Canada's prime minister, helped organize the boycott.
- 1969: After Pierre Trudeau decriminalized homosexuality, a Varsity staff member placed an ad seeking volunteers to form the first LGBTQ campus group, the University of Toronto Homophile Association.
- 2017: The Varsity began publishing a Chinese-language edition on its website.
