Pete Karpuk (c. 1927 – March 4, 1985) was a Canadian football player from Toronto. He played as a halfback and end for the Ottawa Rough Riders (1948–1953), the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1954), and the Montreal Alouettes (1956–1957). He helped the Rough Riders win the Grey Cup in 1951. In the last game of that season, he rushed from the Ottawa bench to tackle Toronto’s Ulysses Curtis just before a would-be touchdown; the referee’s ruling that followed became famous and the move was later called "a Karpuk." Ten years later he faced legal trouble and was jailed for three months after pleading guilty to stealing $110, but the conviction was overturned on appeal in 1962. He died of a heart attack in Toronto in 1985.
