Kami (1982 film)
Kami is a 1982 Malaysian Malay-language drama film directed by Patrick Yeoh and written by Patrick Teoh. It is notable for featuring Sudirman Arshad, a famous Malay singer nicknamed the “Singing Lawyer,” who studied law at the University of Malaya. The film’s director, Patrick Yeoh, was one of the first non-Malay filmmakers to helm a Malay movie in decades.
Plot
The story follows two teenage runaways in Kuala Lumpur. Tookoo, the older boy, takes Din under his wing as they try to survive in the city. Tookoo dreams of becoming a successful pop singer. The pair face threats from gangs, dishonest employers who cheat them, and mistaken arrests by police, revealing the challenges of city life for young outsiders.

Reception
The film did not please many Malay film critics who preferred the era’s traditional style. Still, several established critics later named it the best Malaysian film of 1983, and it represented Malaysia at two international film festivals. Zulzamri won Best Child Actor at the Malaysian National Film Festival for his role as Din.
