Hyacinthoides mauritanica, commonly known as the Mauritius bluebell, is a small flowering plant native to Morocco and Portugal. It is a bulbous perennial that grows up to about 10 cm tall. It has long, narrow leaves and produces blue, violet, or white bell- or star-shaped flowers in spring.

Distribution and habitat:
It grows in open coastal areas, in damp and often sandy soil near sea level. In the past, similar plants in Morocco were sometimes misidentified as mauritanica, but they are a separate species.

Conservation status:
Hyacinthoides mauritanica is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.

Taxonomy:
Binomial name: Hyacinthoides mauritanica. Synonyms include Scilla mauritanica and several other older names. It belongs to the genus Hyacinthoides in the Asparagaceae family.
