Lion Hudson
Lion Hudson is the United Kingdom’s largest publisher of children’s Christian books. It is based in Oxford, England, and since 2021 it has been an imprint of SPCK, a Christian publishing charity.
History: Lion Hudson began as two companies—Lion Publishing (founded in 1971) and Hudson International (founded in 1977). They merged to form Lion Hudson PLC in 2003. After financial trouble in 2017, the assets were bought by the AFD Group. In 2021, SPCK purchased Lion Hudson and made it part of SPCK.
What it publishes: Lion Hudson releases children’s Bible retellings, books, literature, ebooks, and audio books. It focuses on religion and Christianity and uses several imprints: Lion Books, Lion Scholar, Lion Children’s Books, Lion Fiction, Candle Books, and Monarch Books.
Headquarters and distribution: The company is based in Oxford. Its books are distributed in the UK by Marston Book Services, with distribution for other markets through Koorong and Trafalgar Square Publishing (US).
