Homer Pound House
The Homer Pound House is a historic home in Hailey, Idaho, located at 314 2nd Ave. S. Built around 1883–1884 by Horace Greeley Knapp, it is a modest one-and-a-half-story house with shiplap siding and a notable cast-iron fence on the south and east sides.
The house is best known as the birthplace of American poet Ezra Pound (1885–1972). He was born there on October 30, 1885, when Hailey was part of the Idaho Territory. Ezra was the only child of Homer Loomis Pound and Isabel Weston. Homer’s father, Thaddeus Coleman Pound, was a Wisconsin congressman and lumber businessman who helped Homer obtain a government land office post in Hailey (1883–1887).
The Homer Pound House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP reference number 78001051), a designation it received on December 28, 1978. Later, the house served as the home of local journalist Roberta McKercher until 1996. In 2005, it was gifted to the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.
The property covers less than an acre in Hailey, Idaho.
