Denys Dubrov
Denys Dubrov was a Ukrainian Paralympic swimmer who competed in S10 and SM10 events. He was born on January 10, 1989, in Dnipropetrovsk (then part of the Ukrainian SSR, USSR). He began swimming as a child and trained at the Invasport club in his hometown under coach Svitlana Toloknyanyk.
Career highlights:
- 2014 Eindhoven European Championships: won gold in the 200 m individual medley and earned additional medals.
- 2015 Glasgow IPC World Championships: won gold in the 100 m butterfly and the 200 m medley, plus a bronze in the 4 × 100 m medley relay; set European records of 56.43 in butterfly and 2:11.94 in the medley.
- 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics: won eight medals in total — three golds (100 m butterfly S10, 200 m medley SM10, 4 × 100 m freestyle 34pts), three silvers (100 m breaststroke SB9, 400 m freestyle S10, 4 × 100 m medley 34pts), and two bronzes (100 m backstroke S10, 50 m freestyle S10). He set world records in the 200 m individual medley SM10 and the 100 m butterfly S10.
- 2020 Tokyo Paralympics: won bronze in the 100 m butterfly S8 and bronze in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay 34pts.
Honors:
- Awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit (third class) after Rio 2016.
- Named Honoured Master of Sport in Ukraine in 2020.
Death: Dubrov died on May 9, 2022, at the age of 33.
Legacy: Dubrov is remembered as one of Ukraine’s top para-swimmers, known for his speed and versatility across multiple strokes, and for his world records.
