Crommyonian Sow

The Crommyonian Sow is a wild pig from Greek mythology. It roamed near Crommyon, between Megara and Corinth, and was said to be owned by a woman named Phaea. Some stories name the pig after her, while others say Phaea herself was a robber nicknamed "the Sow" because of her rough ways. Some sources say the sow was the daughter of Echidna and Typhon, and Strabo mentions she was the mother of the Calydonian Boar. The best-known tale has Theseus killing the Crommyonian Sow during his early adventures; Hyginus even calls the creature a boar. Plutarch notes another version where Phaia was a murderous robber, and the sow killed by Theseus was named after her.
