Akinola Alada
Akinola Alada is a Nigerian professor of physiology at the University of Ibadan. He was born in Nigeria and has built a long career in medical science and education.
Education and early training
- He earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Human Anatomy and Physiology from the University of Cairo in 1985.
- He completed his MSc and PhD at the University of Ibadan.
Academic career
- Alada served as the head of the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Ibadan from 2001 to 2003 and again from 2010 to 2012.
- He is currently the Dean of Students’ Affairs at the University of Ibadan.
- He is a fellow of the Nigerian Physiological Society and the Nigerian Society of Cooperative Professionals.
- He is a member of the American Physiological Society, the Physiological Society (London), and the West African Society of Pharmacology.
- Alada is the Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Physiological Sciences.

- His research covers a range of topics, including the biological effects of Myristica fragrans (nutmeg) extract, hematological studies, effects of plant extracts on blood pressure and heart rate, cardioprotective studies using nanoparticles, and analyses of mouth rinses and physiology education.
- Notable works include investigations into nutmeg extracts, Tridax procumbens on blood pressure, curcumin-nisin nanoparticle effects on myocardial infarction, and the efficacy of mouth rinses on oral bacteria.
