Specialised Technical Committees of the African Union

The Specialised Technical Committees are bodies of the African Union (AU) that report to the Executive Council. They oversee and coordinate work in key policy areas across the continent.

The eight committees are:
- Specialised Technical Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs
- Specialised Technical Committee on Rural Economy and Agricultural Matters
- Specialised Technical Committee on Monetary and Financial Affairs
- Specialised Technical Committee on Trade, Customs and Immigration Matters
- Specialised Technical Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, Energy, Natural Resources and Environment
- Specialised Technical Committee on Transport, Communications and Tourism
- Specialised Technical Committee on Health, Labour and Social Affairs
- Specialised Technical Committee on Education, Culture and Human Resources

The Assembly may rearrange the existing committees or create new ones. The committees are made up of ministers or senior officials in charge of the relevant sectors.

Functions:
- Prepare projects and programs and submit them to the Executive Council
- Supervise, follow up, and evaluate the implementation of decisions
- Coordinate AU projects to run smoothly
- Submit reports and recommendations to the Executive Council on how the Union’s provisions are being carried out
- Carry out any other tasks needed to ensure the Union’s work is implemented
