Rebekah Scheinfeld
Rebekah Scheinfeld is a Chicago transportation leader who served as the Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) from 2014 to May 2019, appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. During her tenure, she oversaw major projects like the Chicago Riverwalk and the Bloomingdale Trail (the 606). She pushed for pedestrian safety and supported the use of red-light and speed cameras, and helped expand bike-sharing in the city through a partnership with Lyft.
Before joining CDOT, Scheinfeld worked at the Chicago Transit Authority, where she helped plan the Red Line reconstruction and new bus rapid transit corridors. She has also worked at the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and at the law firm Mayer Brown.
In 2020, she was named CEO of the Civic Consulting Alliance, a nonprofit organization serving Chicago.
