R v Du Plessis is a South African criminal-law case decided by the Transvaal Provincial Division in 1960. The deceased had a rib injury, was taken to hospital, and later died from pneumonia. Although an open window was mentioned, the court ruled that the pneumonia was caused by the broken ribs, which made breathing difficult, establishing a direct link between the injury and the death. Citation: R v Du Plessis 1960 (2) SA 642 (T).
