Bruce McNaughton

Bruce McNaughton is a Canadian neuroscientist and a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Irvine. He also directs the Polaris Brain Dynamics group at the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience.

Education and early work: He studied at Carleton University and Dalhousie University. He earned his PhD in 1978, researching how synaptic signals change in a brain pathway in rats. His doctoral advisor was Graham Goddard. One of his notable students is Edvard Moser.

Career path: He has taught at the University of Arizona and later moved his lab to the University of Lethbridge in 2008 after winning the Polaris Award from the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. He joined UC Irvine in 2014.

Fields and recognition: He works in neuroscience, particularly systems neuroscience. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2016 and is a lifetime member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters.
