Maisie Summers-Newton

Maisie Summers-Newton is a British para-swimmer who competes in the S6 disability class. She was born on 26 July 2002 in Northamptonshire, England, and has achondroplasia. She swims a mix of freestyle, breaststroke and medley events and trains with Northampton Swimming Club.

Career highlights
- 2018: At the IPC Swimming European Championships in Dublin, she won gold in the 200 m individual medley SM6 and the 100 m breaststroke SB6, and helped England win the 4x100 m medley relay gold.
- 2019: In London she won gold at the World Para Swimming Championships in the 200 m IM SM6, breaking the world record in the event.
- 2020 Tokyo Paralympics (held in 2021): Summers-Newton won two golds — in the 200 m individual medley SM6 (setting a world record of 2:56.68) and the 100 m breaststroke SB6 — and came fourth in the 400 m freestyle S6.
- 2022 Madeira World Championships: She won gold in the 200 m IM SM6 and the 400 m freestyle. She also set a European record in the 100 m breaststroke SB6 heats (1:32.16) and then won gold in the final. She helped England win gold at the Commonwealth Games selection events and later won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
- 2023 Manchester World Championships: She won gold in the 200 m IM SM6, silver in the 400 m freestyle, and gold in the 100 m breaststroke SB6, setting a European record of 1:31.34 in that event.
- 2024 Paris Paralympics: Summers-Newton won gold again in the 200 m individual medley SM6 with a time of 2:56.90, finishing well ahead of the runner-up.

Honours and awards
- She was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2022 for services to swimming, receiving the honour from Anne, Princess Royal, at Buckingham Palace.
- In 2022 she was named Citi Disability Sportswoman of the Year.
- She appeared in Beano’s BeONE edition in 2021.
- Summers-Newton’s achievements have helped her become one of Britain’s top para-swimmers.
