Group 6 was part of UEFA’s qualifying competition for the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. The four teams were Bulgaria, Cyprus, Northern Ireland, and Portugal. They played each other home and away, for a total of six matches per team. The group winner earned one of UEFA’s nine spots at the World Cup finals.

- Northern Ireland’s home matches in this group were all played in England due to The Troubles.
- In the wider qualification, 31 teams entered the UEFA qualifying rounds; West Germany qualified automatically as hosts, leaving UEFA with nine spots to determine.
