1989–90 National Division 3 (Courage Clubs Championship) was the third season of the third tier of English rugby union, now known as National League 1. Courage Brewery sponsored the division. New clubs in the division were London Scottish and London Welsh (relegated from the second tier) and Lydney and Roundhay (promoted from the fourth tier).

London Scottish were the champions, winning all 11 of their matches, and earned promotion to the 1990–91 National Division 2 with three games to spare. Wakefield RFC finished in second place and were also promoted. London Welsh finished last and were relegated to the 1990–91 Courage National 4 South.

Structure
- Each of the 12 teams played 11 matches (one against every other team).
- The top two were promoted to National Division 2.
- Only the bottom team was relegated, as the division expanded from 12 to 13 teams for the next season.
