Pagli (TV series)

Pagli is a Pakistani Urdu-language romantic drama that aired on Hum TV. It premiered on 28 August 2017 and ended on 22 January 2018, running for one season with 22 episodes. The series is based on the novel Pagli by Shaukat Thanvi. It was written by Khurram Abbas and directed by Ali Masud Saeed. The opening theme is Yeh Pagli Ishq Jaanay Naa, sung by Asim Azhar and Aima Baig.

Story
Dr. Khalid, a psychiatrist who has just returned from America, comes back to Pakistan to reconnect with his family and start a clinic. On a train, he meets Gulrukh, a cheerful and talkative young woman who amuses him and even guesses things about his life. Gulrukh argues that Khalid should marry someone like her, not his fiancée Zubia. Khalid invites Gulrukh to his home, where Zubia and her mother feel uneasy, while Khalid’s mother welcomes Gulrukh.

Gulrukh wins Khalid’s affection, and he begins to fall in love with her, even though he is engaged to Zubia. Gulrukh realizes she may have caused trouble and considers leaving to fix things, but Khalid wants to be with her. Gulrukh runs away when her father and Najam come to take her back, but she is found. Khalid tries to help Gulrukh, while Zubi and Najam start to grow closer.

Shehzeen, Khalid’s sister, wants Gulrukh and Najam to leave so Khalid can marry Zubi. In the end, Gulrukh forgets both her father and Najam, and love begins to blossom between Zubi and Najam when Gulrukh refuses to marry Najam. The story ends with ongoing tensions and the characters moving forward.
