Golconda Skate Park is a public skate park in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. It’s inside Golconda Playground and sits under the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway, on Gold and Concord Streets. The park is open all year and has concrete and brick obstacles.

What it is and where it is
- Location: Downtown Brooklyn/Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
- Size and surface: About 18,000 square feet with concrete and brick areas.
- Access: Located under the BQE; nearby subway access includes the F train to York Street.

How it got its name
- Golconda is a blend of Gold, Concord, and anaconda, chosen because the park’s layout resembles a snake.
- The site was once a DIY spot known as Fat Kid Spot, a nickname that reflected its low, ground-level obstacles.

History in brief
- Origins: The area began as a DIY skate spot called Fat Kid Spot.
- Redesign: In 2013, work began on a $3.7 million redesign to turn the DIY area into a public skate park that fit with Golconda Playground.
- Opening: In 2016, New York City Parks reopened the redesigned Golconda Playground, including the skate park, with input from Steve Rodriguez and the skating community.

What’s happened since
- Community efforts: Starting in early 2019, the NYC Skateboard Coalition, with the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, began monthly cleanups at Golconda to keep debris out of the park.
- Support and tools: In November 2019, the Pablo Ramirez Foundation joined the coalition for a cleanup and skate session. A lock box for brooms and cleaning tools was installed to help locals keep the park clean.

About Fat Kid Spot
- The original name came from its low, ground-level obstacles, which made it easier for skaters of different sizes to ride.

Gallery and more
- Golconda Skate Park has been photographed often, with images showing the park in use and the surrounding area.
