Drop (telecommunication)
Drop (telecommunication)
In a communications network, a drop is the part of a device that connects directly to the inside facilities of a building or station. It links to equipment like a telephone switchboard, a switching center, or a telephone exchange. A drop can also mean the cable from a pole or cable terminus to a building, known as a downlead. These cables are often reinforced to withstand tension from weather and gravity, such as RG-6 coaxial cable with a messenger wire along its length for support. See also: Service drop.
