Andrew Greene
Andrew Greene (born September 24, 1969) is a former professional gridiron football player who played mainly in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as an offensive lineman (guard and offensive tackle). He spent most of his career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was one of the CFL’s top blockers. He won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in 2003 and was a CFL All-Star four times.
Early life
Greene was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and grew up in Ontario, Canada. He attended Pickering High School in Ajax, where he played football, basketball, rugby, and track and field.
College career
He played college football at Indiana University Bloomington. Greene was a four-year letterman and a three-year starter. He was named Indiana’s Outstanding Offensive Lineman twice, earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior, and was a second-team All-American.
Professional career
Greene spent time with NFL teams including the Miami Dolphins (1995 and 1996 offseason), Seattle Seahawks (1997), and Jacksonville Jaguars (1998 offseason). He joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1997, where he appeared in 116 regular-season games, nine playoff games, and one Grey Cup. On February 21, 2007, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and started all 18 games that season. He played in the 95th Grey Cup in Toronto, where the Bombers lost to his former team, the Roughriders. On September 17, 2008, Greene signed with the Toronto Argonauts and was on their practice roster; at the time he became the oldest active CFL player. He was released by the Argonauts on January 26, 2009. On May 25, 2009, the Saskatchewan Roughriders signed him, and he announced his retirement as a Roughrider. The team publicly thanked him for his years of dedication and hard work.
