The 1974 Vermont gubernatorial election was held on November 5, 1974. Incumbent Democrat Thomas P. Salmon won re-election as Governor, defeating Republican Walter L. Kennedy and Liberty Union candidate Martha Abbott.

- Thomas P. Salmon (incumbent) won with 18,498 votes (83.6%)
- John F. Reilly received 3,537 votes (16.0%)
- Other received 86 votes (0.4%)

Republican primary
- Walter L. Kennedy won with 23,738 votes (55.5%)
- Harry R. Montague received 13,901 votes (32.5%)
- T. James Lannon received 4,667 votes (10.9%)
