Aku Pema

Aku Pema is a Tibetan song written by Palgon and released in 2003. The title means “Uncle Pema” in Tibetan.

What it’s about
The song’s title refers to a nickname for the Dalai Lama in Amdo Tibetan, called Uncle Pema (Uncle Lotus). The lyrics don’t name the Dalai Lama directly, but many people read the song as urging his return. The song won the Best Lyrics award at the 2003 Tibetan Music Awards.

Lyrics in simple words
The song speaks to Uncle Pema as a mighty, noble figure—like an eagle and a handsome young man. It says that when he is away, life in the mountains and lakes loses its vitality, and the singer’s heart feels empty without him.
