Turn the Tides
Turn the Tides is the only studio album by 38th Parallel. It was released on September 10, 2002, and recorded at The Sound Kitchen Studios in Franklin, Tennessee, and Note-On Studios in New York City. The album blends alternative rock, Christian rock, and rap rock, and runs 34 minutes and 11 seconds. It was released by Squint Entertainment and produced by Hugh Robertson and Barry Landis. In 38th Parallel’s discography, it follows Let Go (2001).
Critical reception was mixed to positive. AllMusic’s Ashleigh Kittle described the album as edgy, mixing hip-hop elements with gentler melodies and harmonies. Jesus Freak Hideout’s J.D. called it a decent debut and a positive release for listeners tired of secular angst. Christianity Today’s Todd Hertz ranked it No. 11 on its Top 12 Christian Albums of 2002, praising its tight hooks, head-bobbing rhythms, smooth vocals, and godly lyrics.
