Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee
PSNC is the body recognised by the UK Health Secretary as the representative of community pharmacies in NHS matters. Its main aim is to secure the best pay and terms for NHS pharmacy contractors in England, through negotiations with the Department of Health. Community Pharmacy Wales is a related organisation. While the English national contract is largely adopted in Wales, some local variations exist. PSNC also runs prescription pricing auditing, checking a portion of NHS prescriptions and correcting any pricing errors. PSNC members use PharmOutcomes, a web-based system for delivering, invoicing and managing locally commissioned services, run by Pinnacle Health LLP. An e-referral scheme based on PharmOutcomes, developed by Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the North of Tyne Local Pharmaceutical Committee, won a Health Service Journal award in 2015. The system creates a hospital-to-community pharmacist referral when a patient is discharged; the pharmacist carries out a medicines-use review within three days and reports back to the hospital.
