George Ramsay, 12th Earl of Dalhousie

Admiral George Ramsay, 12th Earl of Dalhousie, CB (1806–1880) was a British naval officer. Born on 26 April 1806, he was the son of Lieutenant-General the Honourable John Ramsay. He joined the Royal Navy in 1820 and was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1856. From 1866 to 1869, he served as Commander-in-Chief of the South East Coast of America Station, and he was promoted to admiral in 1875. He became the 12th Earl of Dalhousie in 1874 after his cousin, Fox Maule-Ramsay, 11th Earl of Dalhousie, died. In 1875, he was created Baron Ramsay, of Glenmark. He died on 20 July 1880 at age 74 and was succeeded by his eldest son, John. His fourth son, Charles Maule Ramsay, was a soldier and politician.
