Gabriel Osorio Vargas
Gabriel Osorio Vargas is a Chilean film director, animator and writer. He is best known for Bear Story (2015), a short animated film he directed, animated and wrote. Bear Story won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 88th Academy Awards, becoming the first Chilean film to win in this category. He shared the Oscar with producer Pato Escala Pierart. The film was shown at many festivals around the world and earned numerous awards.
Osorio runs his own animation studio, Punkrobot. Since 2008, he has directed several animated TV series for children—Flipos, Muelin y Perlita, and Soccer Girls—and he has created television adverts.
In 2023, he wrote and directed “In the Stars,” an episode of Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 for Disney+.
