First Church of Christ, Scientist, a historic building in Mason City, Iowa, stands at 23 Third Street NW. Built in 1928 and designed by Minneapolis architect Clyde W. Smith, it is noted for its 1920s architectural eclecticism, combining Romanesque and Gothic Revival elements. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 30, 1997, and is a contributing property in the Mason City Downtown Historic District (added in 2005). The National Register nomination says the design moves away from traditional church layouts and symbols, emphasizing high-quality construction and an "advance design" for its era. Today, the building houses professional offices.
