Balmossie railway station
Balmossie railway station is a small stop on the Dundee to Aberdeen line, near the border between Dundee and Angus. It serves the east of Broughty Ferry and the west of Monifieth. The station is about 5 miles from Dundee East station and lies between Broughty Ferry and Monifieth. The station is managed by ScotRail.
History: It opened on 18 June 1962 as Balmossie Halt and was renamed Balmossie on 16 May 1983.
Facilities: The station has two platforms. Facilities are basic: a bench on platform 2 and a shelter on platform 1. There is step-free access to both platforms via a ramped footbridge. There are no ticket machines or help points, so tickets must be bought in advance or from the train guard.
Train services: ScotRail runs services here. There are two trains a day in each direction, Monday to Saturday. Southbound services arrive at 06:25 to Dundee and 08:01 to Glasgow. Northbound services depart at 18:04 and 18:41 to Arbroath. There is no Sunday service.
Why it’s quiet: The area has a small population and the service is infrequent, so passenger numbers are low.
