At the 1999 ATP Tour World Championships doubles event, Sébastien Lareau and Alex O'Brien won the title, defeating Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes 6–3, 6–2, 6–2 in the final. The eight-team draw included the defending champions Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis, who did not team up this year; Eltingh had retired in 1998, and Haarhuis, paired with Jared Palmer, were eliminated in the round-robin stage. Standings were based on wins, then matches, with head-to-head results used to break two-way ties and, for three-way ties, the percentage of sets won or games won, with a steering-committee decision if needed.
